Description

#009     701.6     Unmarked.     Dark cobalt blue.    "Confederate Egg."

Hundreds of 701.6 "Confederate Eggs" were discovered in the early part of 1990 at a construction site in Richmond, Virginia.  The site was at the location near or at a warehouse used during the Civil War era.  Of the quantity of eggs and other types of threadless insulators found, only a handful are known to have been 701.6 eggs in this dark cobalt blue coloration.  They remain quite rare, and seldom appear for sale within the insulator collecting community.

The cobalt coloration is so intense and saturated, a purple tone is present with bright light.  Amazing color!

The outer area of this historic relic remains nearly damage free.  As with many of the eggs found at the site, this one has an internal fracture that starts at the dome and spirals downward into the upper skirt area (totally undetectable without bright light).
