#018 CD 145.6 BOSTON BOTTLE WORKS. PATENT APPLIED FOR. Aqua with olive impurities. Four segment threads.
The "Knob Top Boston." Produced by the Boston Bottle Works, a glasshouse which operated for a period of years during the 1870's in Somerville. Massachusetts. They manufactured several styles of telegraph insulators, all of which are scarce to rare.
The "knob top" type has been found in limited numbers, primarily in New York state and Georgia.
The olive streak in this unit adds some extra character, making it more appealing to collectors. Crude surface has creases and a "cloth-like" pattern, adding to the desirability.
Skirt fracture (see 2nd image) up from the base appears to be from annealing at time of manufacture. Some adjacent annealing lines on the inner skirt . No chips, dings or damage from use. Fully intact inner skirt and embossing.
