Description

029     CD 145    H.G. CO.     PETTICOAT.     E.     Rusty orange amber.

“E” mold.  The darkest of the amber shades found in CD 145 H.G. beehives.  Scarcer than the lighter yellow amber examples.  Production of amber beehives at the Hemingray Glass Company factory was likely circa late 1880’s to middle 1890’s time period.

In all likelihood, the amber coloration found in some HG Co. beehives was the result of glass being used that was initially made for other products such as Globe fruit jars, lamps and other products that were intentionally made in amber coloration.

Has a paper thin flake, the diameter of a pencil eraser above the reverse wire groove.  Remainder of the sharp edge groove remains completely damage free, which is difficult to find on this type insulator.  Very near mint.

From the collection of the late John Ayer.
