Description

#043     CD 199     Emerald.     Bright yellow green.

A large, single piece "transposition" style insulator produced for C.S. Knowles Company, possibly at one of the Elmer, New Jersey glasshouses.  These rarely found green units are highly sought by collectors, with only a limited number known.  Most were found on the West Coast, including California and the Pacific Northwest, but also known to have surfaced in the Upper Midwest portion of the US.

The embossed emerald was a registered trademark of C.S, Knowles.

This design is quite prone to damage, especially the top umbrella portion.  This one has fared much better than most CD 199, as it has far fewer blemishes than the majority of examples.  An index fingernail surface bruise on the reverse umbrella is shown in the second image.  Otherwise, a slightly larger than match head flake on underside of umbrella.  Remainder of insulator is excellent, which is exceptional for this design.
