Description

#181     731     Unmarked.     Aqua with opaque impurities.

Sizable ribbons and patches of milky-opaque impurities add character to this 1860's threadless insulator.   This type threadless was used throughout much of the US, especially in the eastern portion of the country, and along the transcontinental Union Pacific Railroad in Wyoming and Utah.

Very near mint. (see update below)

From the collection of the late Lawrence Carpenter.

Update 11:20 A.M. Thursday, April 23.  The overall appearance of this insulator is very near mint.  However, it should be noted this item has been tumble cleaned, likely to remove surface oxidation from soil exposure.  Some minor surface blemished have been smoothed in the process.  The largest of these blemishes is a shallow "fish eye" which can be seen in the second photo, to the left of the pinhole cavity.  While the blemishes remain minor, we felt it appropriate to mention the cleaning having taken place, which technically prohibits a very near mint classification.
