Description

#295     723      Unembossed.      Aqua.     "Dot-Dash Wade."

Bold dots and dashes on the body.  The raised dots and dashes aided in securing the wood cover to the glass.

Nine indented spots on each side of the insulator interior (pinhole) were created so the insulator would better adhere to the cement/pin when installed.

This threadless insulator style saw widespread usage on lines in which Jeptha Wade was associated.  The Western Union Telegraph Company used large quantities of them, mostly on new line construction from the early to middle 1860’s.  They have been found in a widespread area, most heavily concentrated in the Midwest, ranging from Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Indiana and surrounding states.  They were used in sizable quantities on the 1861 US transcontinental line from California, eastward toward Missouri.  The US Military Telegraph used sizable quantities of them in Southern States during the Civil War, after areas in the south were occupied by Northern forces, and a need for communication was created.

Half nickel size chip is repaired at the lower skirt/base as seen in the second image.  Half 25¢ size chip is repaired at right center of base/skirt area as seen in third photo.  Fracture from the top of repaired area to part way up the body (1-1/2"), as shown with red arrows in third photo.

BUY-NOW option was removed once the reserve price was met.
