#526 HARLOE’S PAT. MAR. 21 ‘99. MAR. 12 ‘01. DEC. 9 ‘02 White porcelain.
Morton Harloe received numerous patents for various inventions in his lifetime. The idea of producing a self tying insulator was first demonstrated by Harloe in 1899 with a patent for a cleat type insulator. This was followed in 1901 with an impractical design that also involved a self tying insulator. Finally in 1903, Harloe received a patent which consisted of the “three finger” type produced in both glass and porcelain that collectors are familiar with.
Although glass examples have been found in various parts of the country, the vast majority of the porcelain units have been discovered in Northeastern Pennsylvania.
An excellent example is offered here, with a smooth, clean glaze and overall very near mint+ condition.
