Description

#531     731      Unmarked.     Dark amber.

The 731 was one of numerous threadless types which were considered a "compromise" style insulator, which was introduced in 1865.  It was described in contemporary articles as being a combination of an egg and hat style insulator.  The concave skirt was the key feature of the design.

Typically, unmarked 731 are found in various shades of aqua glass, the amber units being much scarcer.  This particular example has a density that passes ample light through the skirt and pinhole in window lighting, showcasing the attractive orange amber coloration quite well.

Excellent overall condition with a nice, unaltered, clean surface. A very near mint beauty.

Dick Bowman collection.
