Description

#558       CD 145       Unembossed.       Rich violet lavender.

Known as the “Grand Canyon Beehive.”  A sizable number of this style insulator was used on a railroad which operated between Williams, Arizona to a location near the south rim of the Grand Canyon, thus the nickname.  Most examples from that line were other, less exotic colors, but some lavender examples were used on the line.  This one has excellent depth of color, being darker than the vast majority of lavender examples.

Based on color similarities, these insulators were likely produced in Valverde, Colorado by the Western Flint Glass Company.  Identical in color to the embossed CD 121 WFG Co offered as Lot #571 in this sale.

Plenty of thick dome glass and a sizable bubble in the skirt are a "plus."

Short surface scratch on the dome (see center of dome in photo), so we'll grade it very near mint.

Great depth of color!
