#614 735 U.P.R.R. MULFORD & BIDDLE. Blue.
The 735 threadless insulators with “U.P.R.R.” embossing were produced for use on the historic, first transcontinental railroad line in America, completed in 1869. They were placed in service through Wyoming and into Utah, all the way to Promontory, where the rails of the Union Pacific and the Central Pacific met.
Most examples of this type insulator have been found in aquamarine colored glass. Various shades and tints of blue have also been found, all of which are quite scarce to rare and very desirable among collectors.
This is an unusual and seldom seen color. It is more blue than "blue aqua," yet isn't one of the more exotic darker shades. The glass has excellent clarity and richness. When viewed from the bottom or top, giving the glass greater thickness, the blue is quite pronounced, having somewhat of a teal tone.
Flat base chip and a fingernail chip on the left side wire ridge (visible in first photo).
Neat air pocket in center of the skirt (first photo) adds attractive character.
