Description

#620       CD 127       W.U.P.     2      Teal aqua with impurities.

Large, bold, fancy script "2" embossed on the dome top.

A rather unusual color that has a chameleon effect!  In window lighting, aqua toning with olive amber impurities are present.  With artificial backlighting, stronger blue and teal tones become evident.  Most likely produced at a Pennsylvania glasshouse at the same time teal colored soda bottles were being manufactured.  We've only seen one other example similar to this color!

The CD 127 with "W.U.P." marking on the skirt is rarely found in any color, with only a small number known.  Both sapphire blue and cobalt blue examples were also produced in limited numbers.

Generally believed by collectors to have been produced by a glass factory in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania during the 1870's.

Surface is a little hazy from exposure in the ground.  Shallow, narrow 3/4" base bruise.  Match head base flake.  Overall, pretty nice condition for this style having a thin, tapered base.

From the collection of the late John Ayer.
