#681 CD 114.2 THE STANDARD GLASS INSULATOR CO. BOSTON, MASS. Blue aqua.
The Standard Glass Insulator Company was listed in the 1893-1894 Boston City Directory, stating they were “manufacturers of glass insulators by Lawrence B. Gray’s patent process for telegraph, telephone & electric light wires and all electric conductors.” They listed two addresses, the Phillips Building, rooms 331 and 332, and the other at 120 Tremont Street, Boston. Lawrence Gray, referenced in their illustrated directory ad, had been issued various patents, primarily for methods of forming threads in insulators by using collapsible plungers.
Seven different styles of insulators bearing the "Standard" marking have been found. Of the seven, the CD 114.2 keg is among the more difficult to obtain.
These seldom appear for sale, especially in this excellent condition. Has only a little book-match head flaking at the base edge, only slightly affecting a small amount of lettering.
