Description

#715       CD 143       MONTREAL TELEGRAPH CO.      Blue.

Embossed "CO" is positioned on the reverse mold half.

Produced for the Montreal Telegraph Telegraph Company, which was incorporated in 1847.  The company quickly expanded its territory, and over a period of decades, eventually controlled over 20,000 miles of line in Canada and nearby states in the US.  However, by the early 1880's it ceased to exist, having merged to form a part of the Great Northwestern Telegraph Company.

Production of the CD 143 embossed with the company name likely started in the middle 1870's.  Typically found in aquamarine coloured glass, the more pronounced blue examples are quite scarce.

The only actual damage to report is a super thin flake the size of a wooden match-head on the reverse.  The dark/light area at right base is an open bubble.
