Description

#893        CD 123       E.C&M CO S.F.       Dark cobalt blue.      "A" mold with 4-5/16" height.

This flared skirt mould variant with rounded dome has been designated as mold type “F.”  Both the flared skirt variants "A" and "F" were placed in service during the early years of EC&M production. The Electrical Construction & Maintenance Company was formed in late 1870, and production of the embossed “F” mold EC&M’s likely commenced shortly thereafter.  Cobalt blue examples were used in several different locations, most surfacing in California and Nevada.

Perhaps one or more glass houses producing blue soda bottles in the 1870's in the San Francisco Bay area might have used the same glass batches to manufacture insulators.  These rich blue beauties can be found in varying color densities, this one having an intense characteristic, creating a purple tinge to the glass.

A small area on the reverse dome corner, the size of two match heads, has an appearance of a pot stone halo. Quite inconspicuous and likely present from the day it was manufactured.  Typical "arrowhead" flaking along the base, shallow chipping and shallow surface bruise on base.  Quite nice, even if it were an aqua EC&M.
