Variant with mold line over dome.
A short example measuring only 4-1/4 inches in height, resulting in the embossing being very close to the base. Contrasts quite well with the towering giant in Lot #949.
Produced for the California Electrical Works circa late 1870’s-1880’s. The company, formed in 1877 as successor to the Electrical Construction & Maintenance Company, distributed their products throughout the western part of the US, and to far reaching places such as Mexico, British Columbia, and Hawaii.
Found decades ago in the general area of Bodie/ Lundy/Bridgeport, all in east central California. Highly contrasting examples such as this shortie and the super tall example are fun to collect, as they stand out as odd characters in a group of “normal” insulators.
Two shallow fingernail chips on the wire ridges. Both are very clean flakes and distract very little. Thumbnail wire groove bruise on reverse.
