Description

#981      701.8      Unmarked.      Blue aqua.

Glass with excellent clarity and richness.

Known as the “National Road Egg,” as the majority have been found on the route of the old National Road, primarily in Ohio. The National Road was a main transportation route in the early 1800’s between Cumberland, Maryland and Vandalia, Illinois, and later from Baltimore to St. Louis.

These short, stocky, egg style threadless insulators rarely appear for sale, and are eagerly sought by threadless collectors. Take into consideration how few have been offered for sale in the past 25 or 30 years!

Possibly used as a door stop at some point in time, as there is some dullness on the dome top, and the wire ridges also have some high point dullness. A few scattered, small flakes and marks, predominantly match head size or small.

From a west-central Ohio estate.
