Description

#982      740      Unmarked.     Dark amber with milk.

A dark yellow amber color, but somewhat lighter than most examples, passing light through the skirt and pinhole with window lighting.  Yarn-like, milky opaque band in the glass adds character.

The 740 design was produced in the 1850’s and 1860’s by at least five or six different glass houses, perhaps more. Several mold variations are known, with production taking place in both Canada and the US. The 740 has been found throughout eastern Canada and across the eastern US. They have surfaced to a lesser degree in the Midwestern US, and all the way to the deep south.

Very thick glass throughout, measuring over 5/8” thick at the base.

Exceptionally nice, very near mint condition.  The base remains in fabulous condition, as shown in the second photo.

Dick Bowman collection.
