Description

#1008      CD 133.2      1       L.A.C.’ s  PAT JULY 25TH 1865      B.F.G. CO.       Aqua.

A rarely encountered item that surfaces for sale, on average, only once every several years. Very few are known to exist!

Small, arc embossed dome lettering with 1865 date and larger skirt embossing. The “B.F.G. Co.” marking likely represents the Beaver Falls Glass Company which existed in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania. In 1869 William Modes and Thomas David purchased a tract of land in Beaver Falls. A glass factory known as the Beaver Falls Glass Company operated there for a number of years.

Various insulator styles are believed to have been produced at this factory location including threaded CD’s 127, 132.2 and 133.2 with various markings. In addition, threadless types 731 and 728.2 were likely produced there as well. The embossed “B.F.G. Co” units are the link that ties them all together, and they remain a very elusive and desirable item.

Surface is slightly dull in a couple areas, and some pinhead to match head size, scattered surface blemishes (visible in photo).  Shallow surface bruise on base is one inch in length, and only half the width of a pinkie nail (quite minor).

An elusive, key piece for the "Paisley/Beaver Falls" collector.

Dick Bowman collection.
