Description

#1067      CD 134      C.  E. L. CO.       Vivid green with "milk" and amber impurities.

A very attractive color, likely caused from a contaminant to the glass batch which resulted in a color shift to an amber toned green.  A two tone effect is present in the dome, the lower layer, just above the pinhole, having stronger amber influences than the very top portion of the dome.  Amber toning is also present around much of the pinhole.

The "CEL lettering is unattributed, but probably represents an end user, perhaps an electrical supply company or a utility company, likely in New England.

Sharp, well formed threads of the "Pennycuick type" are present.  An especially colorful and desirable rarity for the Pennycuick collector!

Very shallow, pencil eraser diameter flake on reverse.  Match head flake.  Shallow, surface marks on on the dome (with the exception of one, all are smaller than a pinhead).

A rare, colorful item!  In all our decades of conducting auctions involving many thousands of insulators, I don't recall ever offering another C.E.L insulator in this attractive color!

Dick Bowman collection.
