Description

#1129      CD 120      Unmarked.      Dark teal-ink blue.

Few examples are known of this unmarked pony style insulator in exotic blue. Only about eight or nine examples are confirmed to exist. The majority of these circa 1880's, mold-line-over-dome gems have been discovered in Ohio, including three or four that were found by a lineman decades ago.

The manufacturer is unknown, possibly produced by a glasshouse where insulator production was limited. The unusual coloration suggests that perhaps glass was used which was initially intended for the production of bottles or some other specially colored product.

Decades ago, this item was part of pioneer collector Esta Brown’s collection. Being a kind hearted person, Esta presented her “little inky” as a gift to a young collector in the mid 1970’s. Half pinkie nail size nick on the base corner. Another of similar similar size on the dome has been buffed.  Lower skirt bruise as shown in the second photo.

A highly unusual and attractive color!
