Description

#1182      GAYNER  1922      INSULATOR  NO 36         Sizing gauge.      Metal.       Approximately 1/32" thick.

A sizing gauge used at a glass factory to verify insulators were being produced at the proper specifications of a customer.  The cut-out profile is of a CD 162.  In all likelihood, various insulator designs had sizing gauges similar to this one, to aid in adhering to strict specifications and quality control, demanded by certain customers, especially in the 1910 and later time period.  Unfortunately they were destroyed or the metal salvaged.  This is the only surviving insulator related example we have confirmed to remain in existence.

From the Bob Moss collection.

Excellent condition with light surface oxidation.
