Description

#1183     1010       Unmarked.      Greenish Vaseline.

A threadless era insulator which is similar to the Yandell insulator patented in 1851.  The insulator was placed in a cross-arm or notch in the side of a pole in a horizontal position.  The line wire then rested in the slot that enters the insulator from the top.

Various forms of the "block" style insulator, as well as this type similar to a Yandell, were produced.  This particular mold variant has surfaced only in the West, and it's speculated they were produced at a very early glasshouse in the San Francisco area,

The Western type rarely surfaces for sale, and this is quite a rare color variant.  Similar to Vaseline in appearance, it has both yellow and green tones, but changes like a chameleon in different light sources.

A little chipping on the smaller, rounded end.  Chipping on the broader diameter end.  Some damage, but not so bad for this type insulator.
