#1259 735 U.P.R.R. MULFORD & BIDDLE. Green.
Most often found in aquamarine colored glass, the green examples are rarely encountered.
The 735 threadless insulators with “U.P.R.R.” embossing were produced for use on the historic, first transcontinental railroad line in America, completed in 1869. They were placed in service through Wyoming and into Utah, all the way to Promontory, where the rails of the Union Pacific and the Central Pacific met.
Fracture from base extends through the UPRR embossing on an angle to the wire groove. Fingernail chip below the "UL" (see second photo) stays mostly to the inside skirt. Has some damage, but lacking the usual chipping, and it's a tough color!
From the collection of the late John Ayer.
