Description

#1261      740      Unmarked.      See-through olive.

A dark olive color, but more transparent than most examples, passing light through the skirt and pinhole with window lighting.  This "see through" coloration is rarely encountered in the 740 style insulator.  Pole Top Discoveries has only offered perhaps a couple other examples in the past three or four decades!

The 740 design was produced in the 1850’s and 1860’s by at least five or six different glass houses, perhaps more. Several mold variations are known, with production taking place in both Canada and the US. The 740 has been found throughout eastern Canada and across the eastern US. They have surfaced to a lesser degree in the Midwestern US, and all the way to the deep south.

Condition is quite nice for this style insulator.  Has a shallow, pinkie nail base flake.  Very shallow (flake-like) base chip is a bout one inch long, with a narrower "tail" extending at the end.

A defect in the mold has resulted in some attractive character on the surface, only partially visible on the wire ridge and lower dome, to the right in the first photo.

Great color!!!!
