#1585 CD 162 H.G. CO. PETTICOAT Brilliant, dark cobalt-peacock blue. Smooth base.
Many examples of the smooth base, peacock blue H.G. Co. signals now in collections were discovered in the St. Louis, Missouri area.
The color of this beauty is darker and more intense than many known examples. Anyone seeking rare and desirable signals or rare glass in general should pay particular attention to this dazzling beauty!
Sold through Pole Top Discoveries' June, 2016 catalogued auction, it was part of Charlie Allmon's collection, which was being offered in its entirety by Pole Top at the time. Charlie kept historical notes for most of the insulators in his fabulous collection. His notes on this gem stated “This is the culmination of approximately 12 peacocks I’ve owned. From Mike Bruner’s collection, about 1990.”
Imagine, Charlie owned a dozen peacock blue, smooth base signals over the course of several decades, and this was the best example he acquired!
Minor, small flakes on the inner skirt. Small, shallow flake on the underpart of the sharp wire ridge (see photo, at far right) has been smoothed/polished. Very minor, small inner skirt flakes.
