Description

#1637      735      U.P.R.R.      MULFORD & BIDDLE.      Blue tint.

Not the ordinary aqua.  Rather, this "old hat" was produced in high quality, blue tinted glass with excellent clarity.

The 735 threadless insulators with “U.P.R.R.” embossing were produced for use on the historic, first transcontinental railroad line in America, completed in 1869.  They were placed in service through Wyoming and into Utah, all the way to Promontory, where the rails of the Union Pacific and the Central Pacific met.

Half of the "U" and all of the "P" is removed with a shallow chip, as seen in the photo.   Otherwise, in very nice condition with only minor blemishes.  Even the damage prone base remains quite nice!
