Description

#1738      CD 143       MONTREAL TELEGRAPH CO.       Rich medium aqua.

Embossing on both mold halves.  Groove base variant.

The Montreal Telegraph Company was one of Canada’s earliest communication companies, formed in 1847.  These jewels date from the later portion of M.T. Co. existence, likely from the middle 1870's to perhaps the early 1880's.

Touch mark at the wire groove (see photo, above "NT") caused from contact in the annealing lehr at time of manufacture.  Shallow nibbling/flaking to 1/8 of the base edge detracts very little from the outer appearance.
