Description

#1804       CD 134       AM. INS. CO.     PATD SEPT 13 '81.       Mustard and amber mix.

An amazing, super colorful jewel!  This rarity sold in Pole Top Discoveries' May 1999 auction as Lot #8.  It's been a long time coming back around for everyone to have another opportunity at making a purchase again!

We'll use the some of the same description that was used in the 1999 Pole Top Discoveries Auction Catalogue:

"Fabulous, stunning coloration!  The rich, brilliant colors are spectacular!  The primary color of the insulator is rich mustard yellow with a slight greenish undertone.  The area around and above the pinhole is more amber, and has no traces of the slight green tone."

Samuel Oakman received various patents for methods of forming threads in glass.  One patent included the molding of an insulator with threads that were formed in a peculiar manner.  The main part of the insulator was pressed from one gather of glass (mustard).  The threads were then formed by inserting a "thimble" (amber) from a second gather of glass.  The second gather, which produced the threaded thimble, was taken form another pot of glass which was colored differently than the first.  The result was an amber halo or thimble completely around and above the pinhole."

The combination of these two colors clearly shows how the insulator was produced from two separate glass gathers to perform Oakman's process.

Embossing is perfectly intact on the base. By the way... the "N" is reversed.

The following is seen in the second photo:  Match head ding on dome. Half pinkie nail flake on the wire ridge to the right.  Shallow chip above wire ridge, the outline marked with white dots.

First photo shows opposite side in excellent condition.

BUY-NOW option was removed once the reserve price was met.
