Description

#1840       742       M.T. CO.      With original threadless pin.        Aqua.

Produced for the Montreal Telegraph Company, which was formed in 1847.  The company used various types of threadless insulators during more than three decades the company existed.  The 742 design was likely developed during the 1860's and continued to be installed on communication lines into the 1870's.

A threadless wooden crossarm pin is more difficult to find than a 742 threadless!  Wood pins seldom surface, usually at locations where the wood has been nearly constantly submerged in water, thus preserving it.

Embossing is fully intact.  Two shallow base flakes... much nicer condition than most!  Has a couple very shallow, surface flakes up from the base, each only pinkie nail size.  Overall, in quite nice condition!

Plunkett Family Collection.  Found by Skip Plunkett near Lindsay, Ontario.
