Description

#2111       Unmarked.       Reddish toned, gray porcelain.

Egg shaped porcelain insulator found at the 1990 Richmond, Virginia dig site.  The insulator color was initially gray at time of manufacture.  The defined red toned surface is the result of a reaction from being in close proximity to bricks during and after the large fire in April, 1865.

There is some speculation these were produced at a pottery in Richmond, but not positively confirmed.

Some fingernail and pencil eraser size chips, but displays well.

From the collection of the late Cecil Boos.
