The 1890 date is in reference to a patent issued to Foree Bain for the surface ribs.
Most often, these are found with no embossing. The much scarcer units with embossing have surfaced along the route of a railroad in Colorado, sometimes in this attractive green coloration.
Flat base chip as seen in the second photo. Otherwise, would grade very near mint with only a couple minor blemishes.
This lot was removed from Pole Top's December, 2021 auction because of an error in the listing. It was described in that sale as being unembossed. Therefore, we felt it was appropriate to re-list it correctly in this event. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
