Description

#2151      CD 156.2      PAT OCT 12 1872.      Aqua.

A very rare item!

The embossed 1872 date is in reference to a patented method (Samuel Oakman) of forming threads in glass that resulted in segmented threads, like those encountered in most Boston Bottle Works insulators.  Despite the 1872 date, this insulator is fully threaded.  Evidence within the pinhole clearly shows the threads were formed using a completely different, Oakman type, collapsible plunger.

Very few examples of this insulator have surfaced over the years.  We've only offered perhaps one or two others in decades of insulator auctions.

Inner skirt chip is smaller than a pinkie nail... embossing is not affected and fully intact.  Fingernail chip in wire groove.  Fracture in skirt (see second photo).  A little damage, but where will you find another?
