Description

#2168       OTIS  PATENT  1851.      Colorless.

A very attractive lightning rod insulator design patented by G.W. Otis in August, 1851.  Quite an elaborate configuration in both the glass and metal components.  The glass has four, triangular shaped indentations on the sides which create great eye-appeal.

Otis insulators were produced at the Boston & Sandwich Glass Company which was located in Sandwich, Massachusetts.  The company is well known for the production of exceptionally high quality wares.

Typically found in various amethyst shades; colorless units are rarely encountered.

Includes the complete top metal assembly, comprising the cap and points.

Shallow flakes, up from the base, and a flat base chip.

Update, 5:35 P.M Sunday, January 30.  The name OTIS added to the description.  That portion of the embossing description was left out in error, in the original post.

Update, 6:40 P.M.  Second photo added.
