Description

#2183      731      TILLOTSON      Dark cobalt blue.

Reportedly from the Steamer Sherman shipwreck which sank in 1874 off the coast of North Carolina.  The steamship was bound for New Orleans from New York when it sprang a leak, sinking two days later.

Some examples have weak embossing.  Not the case with this jewel... the embossing is quite well defined!

The majority of those known have internal fractures.  Such is the case with this one, having two opposing fractures that travel up the skirt to a horizontal fracture that encircles the top portion of the dome. These are mostly concealed from the outside surface.  Only when held to bright light can they be fully detected.  Areas on the glass surface are somewhat dull, apparently from exposure to salt water.

Buy-Now Price: $1300.

BUY-NOW lots are subject to the normal 12% buyer premium, added to the Buy-Now price.

All lots in this event numbered #2178 and up are obtainable using two different purchase methods.  A bidder has the option of bidding on these lots at the current next raise as an auction item.  Or, you may make an instant purchase by clicking the "BUY-NOW" area, positioned just below the green "SUBMIT BID" button.

A reserve has been set on Buy-Now lots.  Once the reserve amount has been met, the Buy-Now option will no longer be available.

Buy-Now and auction purchases will be invoiced vie email by mid day Tuesday, February 1.  Invoices will also be viewable to purchasers on the auction site at that time by clicking the "MY ACCOUNT" tab on the upper portion of the auction page.
