Description

#2209       U-970       Unmarked.       Gray.

An example with "character," having an indentation at the top center of the outer dome area (see third photo)  Perhaps this was caused during manufacture, when the mandrel forming the pinhole was extracted, pulling the soft clay inward?  Only a small number of examples have been observed with this interesting characteristic.

A limited number of these porcelain threadless eggs have been found.  Only a handful were known to exist prior to the big "Richmond dig" in 1990.  A small quantity were found at that time as relic collectors excavated the site of Civil War ruins in that city.

Chip on base / lower skirt, with diagonal fracture leading to a lower wire ridge chip.  Additional fracture traverses to area above wire ridges (see fourth photo for all of the above mentioned damage).
