Description

#2213        CD 123       EC&M CO. S.F.       Aqua with streaks.

The Electrical Construction & Maintenance Company was formed in late 1870, and production of the embossed EC&M insulators likely commenced shortly thereafter.  Perhaps one or more glass houses in the San Francisco Bay area might have produced them.

Typically found in plain aquamarine colored glass, examples with olive amber streaks or swirls are scarce, and eagerly sought by collectors.  Some with olive amber impurities were found in Nevada many years ago, but perhaps the most well known and largest source of them was the "Ridge" communication line which facilitated the control of water for hydraulic mining operations.

Has a moderate amount of streaking.... fortunately there's a looping olive strand across the front.

Internal fracture starts at the left wire groove and goes upward, then across the very top of the dome.  Defined wire rub marks to the right of the "F" and on the reverse dome (see third photo), likely caused by movement of a "swing wire" arrangement.  Another wire rub on the left side skirt.
