Description

#2246       CD 158       BOSTON BOTTLE WORKS.   PATENT APPLIED FOR.       Aqua.

Plaster-like cement was employed to affix the insulator to an old iron bracket.  Quite a treasure... it's one of only a couple known still mounted on an original bracket.  Anyone who seeks historical insulator or telegraph related hardware, or early New England glass, should be quite excited over this discovery!

Four segmented threads and hex dome.

The Boston Bottle Works operated in Somerville, Massachusetts circa 1871-1877.  The facility produced various articles of glass, including several different styles of telegraph insulators.  Most insulators made at the BBW factory were produced with Samuel Oakman’s patented segmented threads.

No chips.  Internal fracture starts in the lower skirt, traverses over the dome, and back down to the lower skirt on the opposite side.  Neither end of the fracture reaches the base.
