#2271 740 FOSTER BROTHERS ST. JOHN C.E. 1858 Blackglass olive green.
Various members of the Foster family were involved with glass production in the Stoddard, New Hampshire area during the 1840’s and early 1850’s.
Some of the Fosters later moved to Canada, where they produced glass, including telegraph insulators, in St. John, Canada East (Quebec). George W. and Charles W. Foster were linked with production of glass at the factory.
However, they moved back to Stoddard by 1861. Therefore, most 740 with Foster embossing were likely made at the St. John factory, but the old molds may also have been re-used in Stoddard.
Attractive, heavily creased surface on front and reverse skirts!
Has only one shallow fingernail base chip that removes the lower half of the letter "T" and a portion of the "J." Just a little, shallow flaking up from base on lower portion of skirt.
Great embossing and nicer condition than most examples!
