Description

#2274       CD 186.2       HEMINGRAY-19       Nearly colorless.     "Hex nut."

A very unusual design with a brass, six sided nut molded inside the dome.  A molded hole extends downward from the glass top, through the threaded nut, and into the pinhole which has a metal thimble.

Only limited numbers were found decades ago, and they have seldom surfaced for sale within the hobby during recent years.

A patent was issued to A.G. Steinmayer for the "spark gap" concept (see second photo).  The 1943 patent illustration shows an insulator similar to a CD 186.1.  Perhaps the CD 186.2  was designed just before or just after the CD 186.1.

This item is being priced the same as a previous sale of this type item ($625 plus buyer premium equals $700) to keep it fair and consistent.

Entire insulator remains in wonderful condition... very near mint+.  Sparkling, shiny glass.

Stock photo.  Actual item offered is nearly identical in appearance.
