Description

#2300       BROOKS'  PAT     AUG. 6   1867.      Iron with near colorless glass.

Iron cylindrical shell with glass "bottle" insert. Embossed on the top end with high relief lettering.

These unique insulators were produced in large quantities by David Brooks of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania during the 1860’s.  Tens of thousands of them were used along the Pennsylvania Railroad, the Reading Railroad and other eastern companies.  Due to moist soil conditions in the eastern portion of the US, very few have survived in that part of the country.

Large quantities were also shipped to the West Coast for use on the historic Central Pacific Railroad, which formed the western segment of America’s first transcontinental rail line.  Due to a much drier climate and favorable soil conditions, examples recovered in California, Nevada and Utah have been in considerably nicer condition than those discovered in the east.

The vast majority of those now in collections have been found along the old CPRR right of way.

Excellent weathered condition.

Buy-Now Price: $120.

BUY-NOW lots are subject to the normal 12% buyer premium, added to the Buy-Now price.
