One of the more difficult "baby signal" embossings to obtain, as few have been found.
The "S. S. & Co." embossing is likely referencing Shay, Stephens & Company. They were listed in various trade manuals during 1889 and 1890 as "manufacturers of insulators and battery jars." Despite the wording, they were probably just suppliers, rather than manufacturers. Molding techniques, glass coloring, lettering style and other characteristics indicate these insulators were most likely produced by Hemingray.
