Description

#2370        738      Unmarked.        Dark teal.

Large "pilgrim hat" threadless insulator in a very attractive dark teal color.

The large hat style was an early design, dating into the 1840's, and with continued usage into the 1850's and 1860's.  Numerous lines in the South used them, and they are often seen in Civil War era photographs, like the one included above, which depicts an area in the vicinity of Harpers Ferry, Virginia (after 1863, West Virginia).

Displays excellent as shown in the first photo.  Second photo shows some shallow small, chipping on the wire ridges and a shallow, pinkie nail flake coming down from the dome edge.  Flat base chip.  Fracture up from the base only extends upward to the bottom of the pinhole.  Another, starting at the base, traverses up the pinhole to the dome.  A dug item with some small areas of damage and surface blemishes, but still displays quite well from most angles and none of the damage is unsightly.
