Description

#2420       Unembossed.        Dark teal aqua.

An early "block" style insulator which is smaller in size than most examples.  The glass block was introduced in the 1840's, shortly after the invention of the telegraph.  Various sizes and configurations were manufactured.  This diminutive example is the smallest known, measuring 1-3/4 inches in length.

Most blocks were produced with flanges on both ends, this being unusual with the flanges at center.

We can't say with total certainty, but believe this example was found in Ohio.

The color is similar to "teal" colored sodas and other bottle types produced in the 1840's-1950's time period.

Quite rare, we've only heard of a couple to exist.

A dug example with hazy surface.  The sharp corners show some wear and shallow flakes.  First photo shows a 1/4" x 3/4" chip to the lower left portion.
