Description

#2472       REID BROS    LONDON.        Brown stoneware.

Another early British insulator.  William Reid & Company of London made scientific instruments as early as 1820, and became telegraph engineers and manufacturers of telegraph instruments and related items in 1836, the oldest telegraph engineering firm in Britain.

In 1861, the firm became known as Reid Brothers, consisting of William Reid Jr, James Reid and Robert Nichol Reid.

This stoneware insulator is a wonderful relic remaining from the pioneer telegraph engineering firm which had its beginnings as a scientific instrument maker over 200 years ago!  History!  History!  History!

The dark line next to the lettering is just a gap in the clay, not damage.  No chips, dings or flakes.  Top of insulator is somewhat less shiny than remainder of insulator.

Update: 6:00 P.M, Friday, October 28.  This item does not have an insert within the pinhole.
