Description

#2484         Unmarked.         Colorless.

Block style lightning rod insulator.  These are found in differing mold styles, this one having a round hole through the center of the insulator.

Typically, block style LRI's are found in aqua, and a few in dark green,  The colorless units are rare.

A leaner that tilts to the right.

The consignor has shared the story (edited) about how he came into possession of the jewel:

"That LRI was found at a place near Monticello, N.Y.  it was found during the summer of 1988 when we were antiquing.   I don't remember the name of the place (antique business). It was also a residence... seemed to be an old farm.  There wasn't much of interest to me in the barns, so while my friends were still shopping, I went for a walk around.   I found an old dump area on the property, next to the driveway.  The glass wasn't hidden at all; a green LRI was sticking out of the ground, so I decided to kick around, hoping no one would question what I was doing. Sure enough, two of the clear block style LRI's popped up from the dirt.   I knew they were nice old pieces but never realized how scarce they are.

This is the second example of the clear blocks discovered in 1988.  The first was sold in Pole Top's June 2022 event.

Excellent condition for this damage prone style, remaining very near mint!!!
