Description

#2536        CD 123       E.C&M CO S.F.       Aqua with olive amber.

An amazing example with a large, wide ribbon of dark colored impurities which measures 3/4" in width at the bottom.  This heavy band streams across the dome, cascading downward toward the base on one side and extends down to the wire groove on the other.  Quite an impressive jewel!  Additional olive amber streaks and swirls in remainder of the glass.

Limited numbers of olive amber contaminated EC&M's have been found, usually having finer swirls and streaks.  This jewel goes well beyond with an exceptionally wide and impressive ribbon.

The route of the Ridge Telephone line in northern California's Sierra Nevada Mountains has been the source of some olive amber swirled EC&M's.  The majority of those now in collections probably came from that line.  The long distance telephone line was constructed in 1878 as a means of communicating to control water used in hydraulic mining for gold.  A limited number of swirled EC&M's were also found on the route of a communication line operated by the Nevada & California Telegraph Company between Austin & Battle Mountain, Nevada.

Even those collectors who already have a swirled example will likely be attracted to this gem as a variant, due to the wide banding.  Quite an impressive jewel.

Measures 4" in height.  Produced in the desirable "D" mold, which is often referred to as the "tin mold" or "sheet metal mold" due to the raised parallel set of lines forming the side and top mold line.

Found with the original iron wire intact, which still remains on the insulator,

A beauty with a sparkling, whittled surface and attractive bubbles inside the glass, adding even more desirability.

Base remains in incredible condition, just as it looked the day it left the glass factory.  No chips or dings on the entire insulator!  Annealing line part way across the dome appears to stay within 1/8 inch of the outer surface most of the distance.
