Description

#2680      CD 126      8    PAT MARCH 20 1877    W. BROOKFIELD          PAT JAN 25 1870   PAT FEB 22 1879    55 FULTON ST. NY       Dark teal.

Strong embossing.

An incredible color that is practically non-existent in early Brookfield glass.  A handful of CD 133 dome embossed Brookfield signals have been seen in a similar coloration, but the CD 126 is exceptionally rare, with only two examples accounted for.  The other example was sold many years ago in a Pole Top Discoveries auction for a five figure amount, and it had some damage.

Interestingly, the other known example also had the shop number "8" embossed on the dome.

Most likely, this jewel was was produced using a glass batch that was created for the production of soda bottles, since bottles of that type were intentionally similarly colored.

A spectacular color that adds tremendously to a color run of CD 126's.  Very complimentary to any amethyst early Brookfield items, especially the purple CD 126.  There are approximately 15 to 18 purple 126's known.  With only two teal examples confirmed, there should be plenty of interest in this colorful gem!

Pencil eraser diameter flake up from the base and a match head mark on the dome.  Otherwise, excellent condition.
