Description

#2755     CD 317       CHAMBERS   PAT AUG. 14 1877         PATENT DEC 19 1871.        Rich green.

A brighter green than is typical for this type insulator, the glass possessing greater than normal clarity, making it stand out among other Chambers insulators.

The patent drawing for Josephus Chamber’s August 14, 1877 lightning protection system included a ground cable. However, his advertisements claimed that part of the success of his system is the lack of a grounded rod!

Chambers systems were installed throughout the Midwest, with the heaviest concentration within 150 miles of the Cincinnati/Covington area. Small groups of them have also surfaced in the Erie, Pennsylvania area as well as Western New York State. Some were used as far south as Florida.

These are exceptionally large lighting rod insulators, measuring 7-1/2 inches tall!  Produced by the Hemingray Glass Company in Covington, Kentucky.

Entire insulator remains in fabulous condition with the exception of a flat base chip as shown in the second image.
