#2764 Unmarked. "Jumping Insulator." Brown stoneware.
Insulator height: 3-1/2 inches.
Once part of Keith Neal's collection, later purchased by Marilyn Albers after Keith's passing, and still later became a part of the Lis & Jim Bergman collection after Marilyn passed.
This insulator is shown on page 63 as Figure 83 in Keith Neal's book titled Searching For Railway Telegraph Insulators. He describes it as: "Jumping insulator recovered at Derby, Midland Railway. It was used for carrying a line close to a wall and made from brown stoneware: examples are very rare."
Appears much like the inner "sheds" used on Varley insulators. Apparently this example, with forged iron bracket, was used independently in a special application as an insulator.
Excellent condition. Still covered in railway soot.
From the collection of Lis & Jim Bergman.
