Description

#2772       Insulator with oil cup.      White porcelain.

Insulator height with oil cup included: 4-1/2 inches.  Height including pin: 9-1/2"

In his book Searching For Railway Insulators, Keith Neal shows a somewhat similar, two piece, oil cup insulator and makes reference to it being patented in 1876.  That's a very early date for an oil cup type insulator, compared to the later date that the concept was promoted in America.

This unit, with detachable oil cup, is similar in overall concept to the North American CD 180.5 "Liquid" insulator.

Buller, Jobson & Company illustrated a nearly identical insulator to this lot as their "E.I. 470."

Very near mint condition.

From the Jim & Lis Bergman collection.
